Abstract

The study determined the mediating effect of athlete self-efficacy on the relationship between sports motivation and sportspersonship orientation among student-athletes in the Division of Cotabato. The study is a quantitative, descriptive-correlational, and predictive design conducted among 170 student-athletes competing in various events in three different schools. Adapted questionnaires from several authors were utilized. Mean, standard deviation, Pearson's r, and mediation analysis using the Sobel z-test were used to analyze the data. Results revealed the following: sports motivation was high and often manifested; athlete self-efficacy was very high and consistently evident; and sportspersonship orientation was high and often demonstrated. Significant relationships exist between sports motivation, athlete self-efficacy, and sportspersonship orientation. Athlete self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between sports motivation and sportspersonship orientation; thus, improving self-efficacy enhances sportspersonship orientation among student-athletes. It is recommended that sports motivation, athlete self-efficacy, and sportspersonship orientation be improved through seminar workshops and trainings among student-athletes.
