ATTITUDE and Physical Activity as Determinants of Academic Performance of Junior High School Students in Tugbok DISTRICT

This study determined the influence of attitude on physical activity on the academic performance of Grade 9 public junior high schools in Tugbok District. Cluster sampling was used to select the respondents from participating schools in Davao City. An adapted questionnaire for the variables, attitude, and status of physical activity was used, while grade point average (GPA) in students’ grades was used to measure the students’ academic performance. A quantitative-descriptive correlation research design was also used. The statistical tools used in analyzing the data were mean, standard deviation, Pearson r, and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that attitude toward physical activity is high while status toward physical activity is moderate. The academic performance is very satisfactory. There is a significant relationship between physical activity and academic performance; however, there is no significant relationship between attitude and academic performance. Attitude and physical activity significantly influence academic performance. In a singular capacity, attitude toward physical activity has more influence on academic performance.
